Friends and Neighbors is a matching game that focuses on emotions. Can players help a little girl who's sad because she's standing out in the rain or a boy who's afraid of the dark? Reach into the Helping Bag and Pull out a token - can it help someone on the game board? If so, it's a match! In playing the game and reading about the feelings and needs of the characters, parents can help their children recognize feelings in others - the first step to building empathy. INCLUDES: 4 game boards, 14 tokens, 1 helping bag, 1 stop sign board, social and emotional intelligence parent guide and friends and neighbors story book.
Approximately 10 minute play time
"While all board games can help teach social skills - taking turns, paying attention to the actions of others, winning and losing with grace, etc., Friends and Neighbors is one of my absolute favorites for helping develop empathy in young children. The game plays a little like Bingo. You pull a token out of the bag. It will have an image on it, and you must see if it matches one of the images on your board. If it does, you place it in the correct spot, and tell a story about how that item can help that person. If it doesn't it goes on one of the spaces on the stop sign. This is a cooperative game in which together all players are trying to help your friends and neighbors with their problems, before the stop sign gets filled up. The game comes with a cute book. My favorite part of this game is how it can spark meaningful conversations between adults and children or children and other children about kindness and compassion. Peaceable Kingdom, the publisher, creates award-winning games that inspire cooperation and cultivate kindness."
